About Me

My name is Amy Spencer.  I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grew up in the suburbs there.  I attended college at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown to earn my Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education specializing in mathematics.  Upon graduation, I moved to northern Virginia.  I started teaching high school in a rural town.  I have mainly taught Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 courses over the years.  I also teach developmental mathematics at a local community college as an adjunct instructor.  I wanted to continue my education and earn a master’s degree, but I could not decide if that should be in administrations and leadership, school counseling, curriculum, or what area I would want to focus on.  I started to have some interest in pursuing a position as an Instructional Technology Resource Teacher.  After that realization, I started to look for online master’s programs in instructional technology and educational technology.  My final decision was the Boise State University Master of Educational Technology program, so I enrolled in the summer of 2015.

I have a caring and supportive husband and a sweet, giggly daughter at home.  I am working through this program for myself as much as I am for them.

It has been quite some time since I have been in the classroom, so it is intimidating to try to get back into the routine of learning.  Knowing that this is a virtual classroom instead of a physical classroom is also adding some extra worry into my thoughts.  I am aware that the outcome will be positive and allow for more opportunities in my career.  I will need to keep reminding myself of the end goal over the next 2-3 years while I am working.

At the completion of my M.E.T. program with Boise State University, I will need to present my final portfolio.  I am going to use this site to compile my assignments and projects along the way.  I will also reflect upon my thinking, frustration, and growth while creating many items.  Hopefully, this site will help me to create a clean, finished product for my portfolio by having everything loaded here along the way.
